Roundabout to Mount Broadway Premiere of Marc Camoletti's Farce Don’t Dress for Dinner
Marc Camoletti’s Don’t Dress for Dinner, a sequel to the French sex farce Boeing-Boeing, will arrive on Broadway in 2012. The Roundabout Theatre Company production, translated by Robin Hawdon and directed by John Tillinger, will begin previews on March 30 and open officially on April 26, 2012, at the American Airlines Theatre. Casting for the show will be announced shortly.
Don’t Dress for Dinner follows Jacqueline and Bernard, a happily married couple—or so it seems. When Jacqueline makes plans to visit her mother for a few days, Bernard prepares to spend some time with his new mistress. An old bachelor pal, Robert, announces his return from Hong Kong, allowing Bernard to believe he's found the perfect alibi, until Jacqueline learns of Robert’s arrival and changes her travel plans. Throw in a Cordon Bleu-level chef and two women named Suzy and—voila!—Dinner becomes a high-speed farce.
Don’t Dress For Dinner opened in Paris in 1987, under the original title Pajamas Pour Six, and Robin Hawdon’s English adaptation premiered in London at the Apollo Theatre in 1991. It has never appeared on Broadway. Tillinger previously helmed a successful—and reportedly Broadway-bound—production of Don’t Dress For Dinner at Chicago’s Royal George Theatre in 2008, with a cast that included Patricia Kalember, Mark Harelik, Spencer Kayden, Jamie Morgan and Jeffrey Donovan.
The Broadway design team includes John Lee Beatty (sets), Jess Goldstein (costumes) and Ken Billington (lights). The limited engagement will run through June 17, 2012.
